Relaxing at the 4000 Islands

It’s only 3 hours driving from Pakse to Si Phan Don, literally called the 4000 islands. It’s called 4000 islands because during the dry season the river recedes and leaves behind hundreds of islands and islets! We stayed on one of the bigger ones called Don Khon, which is much more quiet and have a more village vibe than Don Det..well, that’s at least how I feel about it. We decided to go for a little bungalow with a shared riverview terrace ànd hammocks. I used the restaurant nextdoor quite frequently as ‘office’ :-)

Hammocks and a view, what do you need more?

Life on the 4000 islands is VERY laid-back! Don’t be surprised to get anything you ordered an hour or so later. We didn’t mind as the view while waiting was super and we come here to chill and to relax, right?

Big islands and small islets

Let's catch some fish!

Don Khon is easy to cycle around by bicycle. You’ll pass an old French pier and 2 very nice waterfalls. The 2nd one, the Li Phi waterfalls, are my favorite, definitely worth the 25.000 LAK I paid to enter. This spectacular waterfall has a nickname of the Devil’s Corridor. It also has a small pitoresque beach and a very cosy restaurant. A perfect spot to end the biking tour and to see the start of sunset. The final touch of the trip is the wonderfull sunset at the French railway bridge! Actually every sunset that I’ve seen at the island was amazing!

I ran out of pens but they were already happy with a drop of sunscreen ^_^

2 French guys that were staying at the same guesthouse planned a magic show for the local (kids). I wonder if the kids know what magic is, they had a quite confusing expression on their face :-)

Enjoying some magic...

I stayed 5 days at Don Khon but could have for sure stayed longer! I however thought it was time to move on to Cambodia!
